The former Real Madrid midfielder, who found success coaching Bayer Leverkusen, will reportedly sign a three-year contract. He joins the club with the goal of restoring glory after a disappointing season across the Champions League, La Liga, and Copa del Rey.
First Challenge: FIFA Club World Cup
Alonso’s first major task will be leading Real Madrid to their first-ever FIFA Club World Cup title. He will have only a few days to prepare before the team heads to the United States. Madrid’s opening match is scheduled for June 18 against Saudi club Al-Hilal. Other group opponents include Mexico’s Pachuca and Austria’s RB Salzburg.
New Coaching Staff Joins Real Madrid
According to Marca, Alonso will bring four staff members with him: Sebas Parrilla (main assistant), Alberto Encinas, Beñat Labaien, and fitness coach Ismael Camenforte López. Veteran fitness coach Antonio Pintus will remain at the club at the board’s request.
